SETTING UP OF PROCESSING UNITS FOR SELECTED MINOR FOREST PRODUCE

OVERVIEW

One of the Indian state’s Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation (on behalf of a private investors), is aiming to diversify into the food processing industry with major focus on processing of Minor Forest Produce, retained Technopak for formulating preliminary project reports of processing units of Aonla, Jamun, Bael and Jackfruit. The purpose of the report was to assist the investor in selection of the processed products that are commercially viable and in suggesting the model unit.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the project is to focus on assisting client in identifying the processed Aonla, Jamun, Bael, and Jackfruit based products that have a market potential along with assisting in technical, marketing, and financial aspects of setting up of processing units.

WHAT WE DID

  • Identified the potential of processing of Aonla, Bael, Jamun, and Jackfruit in the state.
  • Suggested technology for commercial processing of the selected Minor Forest
  • Produce and identified suppliers
  • Prepared a Marketing plan, and a production plan

SETTING UP OF MEGA FOOD PARKS (UNDER MFP SCHEME OF GOVT. OF INDIA)

OVERVIEW

Mega Food Park is a scheme of Government of India aims at providing a mechanism to link agricultural production to the market by bringing together farmers, processors and retailers to ensure maximizing value addition, minimizing wastage, increasing farmers income and creating employment opportunities particularly in rural sector. The SPV receives funds from the government to help them build a food park with state-of-the-art facilities.

OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of the MFPs is to provide modern infrastructure facilities for the food processing industries along with the value chain from the farm to the market. It includes creation of processing infrastructure near the farm, transportation, logistics and centralized processing centres. The main feature of the Scheme is a cluster-based approach. The scheme is demand-driven and facilitates food processing units to meet environmental and safety standards. Food Park is a readymade platform with common infrastructure required for processing, packaging, environmental protection systems, quality control labs, trade facilitation centres etc.

WHAT WE DID

  • Detailed Project Report, Detailed engineering and design including preparation of detailed cost estimates for various project components/facilities.
  • Assistance to SPV in preparation of a procurement policy, bid documents and selection and appointment of contractors/equipment suppliers in a transparent manner, for project construction and supply of plant and machinery.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the work output of the contractors/equipment suppliers in compliance of the terms and conditions of the contracts/appointments with the objective of ensuring quality, completeness and compatibility of the work carried out in relation to the Project.
  • Assistance to SPV in preparing all necessary documentation for submission to govt. in order to facilitate release of funds sanctioned under Scheme. 
  • Assistance to SPV in submission of Monthly Progress Reports to govt. in prescribed format.

RESULTS

  • Total 8 nos. of Mega Food parks have been taken up across India.
  • The outcome is to increase realization for farmers, creation of high-quality processing infrastructure, reduction in wastage, capacity building of producers, processors and creation of an efficient supply chain along with significant direct and indirect employment generation.
